    You Say It’s Your Birthday…

You guys, I have a confession to make: I love birthdays! And before you roll your eyes and say to your computer/tablet/phone screen, “Ugh, I HATE birthdays,” hear me out. I haven’t always had great birthdays. I actually have a long history of disappointing birthdays. I mean, one of the better of the disappointing birthdays was the year I turned 21. I had full blown strep throat, a huge paper due the next day and my mother had been in the wind for 3 years – womp, womp. So don’t come at me with all the reasons why you hate your birthday or how no one ever does anything for you or…

Mom Crimes, Stuart Smalley, and How I Am Learning to Like My Body.

Several years ago, when my oldest daughter was about 2 years old, I caught myself committing a common girl mom crime: verbally criticizing my body and the way clothes were fitting me. I was trying on clothes in front of the full length closet door mirrors in my bedroom while she played on the floor nearby. She was making faces in the mirror and being silly, while I stood next to her, staring at myself wearing some pants and a shirt and saying something akin to, “Ugh, I hate the way I look in this.” I happened to glance down at her as I said this, initially, I suppose, hoping…

Recipe Alert! Paleo Chicken Parm Meatballs

I love people with food. That is just who I am. It’s almost as if I was an Italian grandmother in another life and I left this Earth in the middle of cooking dinner and now I’m trying to fulfill my destiny of feeding everyone. I love to serve people. I love to serve people food that I’ve cooked. With all of that said, Friday was Valentine’s Day and I always have something cooked up for…

    Focus.

Did anyone else get caught up in this year’s movement of choosing a word at the start of the year to identify your purpose in 2020? I heard it happening around me and I thought about it, considered it a great idea, but just couldn’t settle myself to think about it enough to pick a word. I figured it would come to me. There was a lot happening as the year turned over to 2020. My youngest daughter had just turned 2 followed directly by a semi-spontaneous trip to Disney World before school got back in session. School kicked off, Grandma Jan flew in and 2 days later, I drove…

    Once Upon A Tribe

When trying to decide what my very first post should be about, I stewed over so many ideas spanning a wide range of topics. I have so many things I want to talk about! But then I had to remind myself, “Pace yourself, Heather. You’ve got a lot of time, quit trying to do it all at once,” which, if you know anything about me, is something I tend to do. Overdoing it is one of my special gifts – often in great ways, but sometimes to a fault. To be honest, the idea of Our Whole Tribe came to me last spring. I was mentally gearing up for our…
